Programs

Our

Young children are at the heart of everything we do. We support their learning of essential life skills while nurturing self-esteem through the development of confidence, competence, curiosity, creativity and cooperation.

We believe every child deserves the very best start in life — one that supports them not only for school, but for their future as capable, caring and engaged members of the community.

Our program is play-based, because we understand that play is how children learn best. Through play, children actively explore, problem-solve, communicate and make sense of the world around them. These rich experiences support strong foundations in language, emotional regulation, social skills and a confident transition to school.

Our preschool offers a flexible indoor and outdoor routine that supports children’s autonomy and choice. Children’s interests, skills and abilities shape our program, with children actively involved in planning, reflection and documentation.

Learning is made visible through our floor book approach, supported by monthly learning summaries. Each child also develops their own learning portfolio, which is gifted to families at the end of the year as a meaningful keepsake of their preschool journey.

Nature Play

Nature play is an integral part of our preschool program and reflects our strong commitment to children’s wellbeing, learning, and connection to the natural world. Our environment includes a dedicated loose parts play area that encourages creativity, problem-solving, collaboration, and imaginative thinking.

Children regularly participate in offsite nature play experiences, walking with educators to local nature play sites where they can explore, take appropriate risks, and build confidence in outdoor environments. These experiences support children to develop resilience, independence, and a sense of belonging within their local community.

Our educators are trained through Nature Play Queensland and intentionally support children’s learning through thoughtful observation, guidance, and reflection. Through regular engagement with nature, children develop a deep respect for the environment and meaningful connections that support lifelong learning.

Our Community

Our Preschool

Wallum Community Preschool is a not-for-profit, community-operated preschool that has proudly supported and educated children and families across the Tweed Shire since opening in 2005.

At the heart of our preschool is our Preschool Committee, which helps guide the management and future direction of Wallum. The committee plays an important role in supporting our educators and ensuring the preschool continues to grow and thrive.

Getting involved is a meaningful way to be part of your child’s preschool journey, connect with other families, and contribute to our community. Families are encouraged to attend monthly meetings and participate in a way that suits them — whether by sharing ideas, lending skills, or simply being part of the conversation.

As a registered charity, we rely on the involvement of our families. All parents and carers of enrolled children are encouraged to become members of our association and help shape the future of Wallum Community Preschool.
