
Mission Statement
At Wallum Community preschool we believe in warm, responsive and nurturing connections with all children and families. We view families as children’s most influential educators through mutual respect and open collaboration. Our team is full of passionate, motivated and dedicated educators who pride themselves on the core values and beliefs of our preschool philosophy. Our carefully designed preschool curriculum includes nature pedagogy, risk and challenges, flexibility and promotes self-esteem, health and wellbeing. Our children’s voices, current and emerging interests underpin authentic and meaningful play-based experiences. Embedded and woven into our daily practices;

We take the time to know our children well through developing warm, consistent and caring relationships and ensuring all children feel heard and supported by giving our undivided attention.

Educators recognise that diversity contributes to the richness of our society and provides opportunity to embrace culture, identity, languages, traditions and to celebrate, acknowledge, and value difference.

Curriculum

To create aesthetic environments that serve as a third teacher, giving children an appreciation of natural elements, living things, cycles of life along with understanding of environmental awareness.

Children are encouraged through natural environments to participate in hands-on sustainable practices and enhance their understanding on the world around them.

We allow children a place to connect with Country through an unhurried and relaxed nature-based program (indoor/outdoor) where inquiry, investigation, curiosity, creativity and exploration is fostered. Loose part materials, plays a vital role within our indoor and outdoor environments.

Our environments permit a level of managed risks, challenges and sense of adventure, bringing in the imagination.

We provide experiences of playing in nature where children can gain from the healing and grounding benefits that impact their physical and mental health. We embrace the addition and practice of mindfulness and breathing in the rhythm of our day, supporting self-regulation.

Our practices our guided by the Early Years Learning Framework, National Quality Standards and Framework, Code of ethics and preschool policies and procedures.

Community

Educators are genuinely committed to embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives in all aspects of our curriculum and preschool environment, making a conscious effort to connect with elders from our local community.

We respect and acknowledge the Bunjalung people as the Transitional Owners of the land which our preschool stands. Children learn and play on land everyday, and it is essential to recognise the importance of respecting, appreciating and valuing local culture and history.

We are committed to connecting with our local community to help build a greater sense of belonging which includes a variety of incursions and excursions.
